Mission Statement

To develop a bicultural partnership and to encourage every individual to achieve at their highest level.

Vision

Opotiki College is a school which puts the individual needs of the student foremost. It creates a well-structured, secure environment for its students so that they feel confident enough to express their opinions but at the same time understand the importance of respecting those of others. It creates a no fear environment so that students feel supported and self-assured and can grow as mature, self-respecting, compassionate adults. It creates an environment which promotes an attitude of second best is never good enough – where striving for excellence in all respects is the norm.

About Us

Opotiki College is a state secondary school located in the Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. Opotiki is a small rural town with approximately 4,600 people. It lies between two rivers and is very close to the sea. Approximately 9,500 people live in the district.

The Special Character of our School

Students of New Zealand Maori descent comprise 75% of the school population. For this reason our school offers a unique cultural experience in a community with traditional New Zealand small town values. The absence of the stress and pressure of city living provides an opportunity for students to concentrate fully on achieving their personal goals.
